Rajiv mehrishi took over as 13th comptroller and auditor general india (CAG) of india on 25 september 2017 succeeding shashi kant sharma , who  let office on 22 sept.

Mehrishi was administered the oath of office and secrecy by president ram nath kovind at a function in rashtrapati bhavan , delhi. Several dignitaries including  vice president M Venkaiah naidu  and prime minister  Narendra Modi were present at the occassion  
His predeccessor shashi kant sharma had taken over as cag on 23 may 2013  .prior to this appointment , sharma was serving as the defence secretary 




 Now some point on CAG 

The CAG is for a term of six year  or till age of 65 years whichever is earlier 

Since mehrishi is currently 62 year old ,he would be in office until 7 august 2020 

The CAG enjoys same status as a judge in supreme court 

CAG is also head of  the indian audit and accounts department

MEHRISHI , who is a 1978  batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre , completed  his 2 year fixed term as the home secretary 

He has previously held several posts in both his state cadre rajasthan and in the centre 


Prior to his appointment as the home sec ,  je worked as the economic affairs secretary  and chief secretary of rajasthan 

Salary of auditor genral is very huge  approx 8 lakhs / month
